Corporate Training Services (CTS) of Durham College recently conducted an informal survey of our recent graduate AZ Driver training students (April 2012-September 2012). The purpose was to determine how successful they were in securing employment in the transportation field after completing the training.
We are pleased to report that 12 out of the 13 students were hired after completing their training at CTS.
Some of the companies that hired them were:
- Hennessey Transport
- The Mackie Group
- Toronto Zoo
- Canada Cartage
- Motor City Crane
- Miller Paving
- AMJ Campbell Van Lines
Anecdotally we hear that our students consider our training some of the best, but you can hear for yourself by watching the following video.

I just wanted to give you a follow up and a thank you to you and Durham College for helping me obtain a second career. I also would like you to give a copy of this email to both Dale Burns and Don Weber. It took a few weeks but I landed a warehouse position through an agency as a temp but now when they found out I had got my ‘D’ licence through Durham College they have me doing runs in a huge straight truck to Ottawa, Kingston and Sudbury and Sault Saint Marie. Let Dale and Don know that the truck is a 10 speed just like the one there and I am still missing the odd shift but not that many now and my downshifting is not so bad either.
Thanks for all your help and thank you Dale and Don for the great instruction and advise."
Thanks again.

Yesterday, I was successful at passing my driver’s tests resulting from the specialized training that I took at Durham College. As you may know, the Ontario DriveTest Centres suffered through a difficult four month strike which delayed my practical and written exams and the conclusion of my Durham College training. However, now that this strike is over, your team (Dale and Don) reached out to me, scheduled their time around my schedule, and provided some necessary refresher training in order to better prepare me for these tests after such a long delay.
Now, I have passed my new driver’s licences earning a D-licence (link to page) for commercial trucks, a F-licence for limos, buses to 24 passengers, and ambulances, as well as my Z-endorsement for air brakes. I recommend that everyone revisit driver training; which for me, after 36 years, was a serious eye-opener as I sure forgot a lot since my initial training when I was 16 years old. As you might expect, I was unaware of some of the new laws too. Overall, it was a very interesting, educational, rewarding and most of all, a fun experience.
Please congratulate Dale and Don for their continued patience, hard work on my behalf, and superior student service. Needless to say, I am absolutely delighted with the outcomes and will certainly recommend Durham College to my friends and colleagues. You should consider adding even more capabilities to this department.
If you ever need someone to stand up and recommend this program, just call me.
Cheers."
