Lay the Groundwork for New Development
Structurally speaking, the foundation is the epicentre of any development. Everyone knows you can’t have a solid foundation without well-laid groundwork. That’s where you come in. As a heavy equipment operator, it’s your job to command specialized machinery that accurately prepares and stabilizes the land beneath any budding development. So dig some new roots for yourself with our exciting and intensive four-week Heavy Equipment Operator training program. As a highly trained operator, you will have a front-row seat to building tomorrow’s future, making a real difference in our communities and across the country.
From learning how to use effective onsite communications to applying the best equipment practices, we’ll cover all of the bases to ensure you stay safe on the job. In compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, you will learn how to maintain personal protection gear, employ safe rigging practices, work near utilities safely, and critical fire safety measures.
You’ve been tasked as the heavy equipment operator for a new land development; your first step in planning is to carefully scout the terrain and absorb as much information as you can about its soil characteristics. Here you’ll gain critical site management knowledge and experience from site planning and setup, to understanding how to interpret surveys and grade stakes.
It’s not always smooth sailing when you’re operating heavy equipment. That’s why checkpoints and rigorous inspections are the key to safe and efficient operations. From industry experts and licensed operators, you will learn how to conduct pre-operational inspections, learn start-up and shut-down procedures, recognize equipment failure symptoms and indicators, and successfully perform routine equipment maintenance. When we’re through, you’ll be able to think quickly on your feet and adapt to any situation.
To be certification-ready, you’ll spend three intensive weeks working in the field at our specialized heavy equipment training centre. When you’re finished, you’ll be ready to expertly perform ramp building and stockpiling operations on a crawler dozer; as well as excavating and trenching, grading, shuttling, loading and backfill operations on a tractor loader backhoe and a tracked excavator.
